Viral video of bodies thrown into the sea, 14 crew members of Long Xing 629 return to their homeland

BANTEN, KOMPAS.TV - 14 crew members of the Long Xing 629 ship, who were suspected of being enslaved by Chinese fishermen, arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten.

They were then taken to a safe house by the Police Criminal Investigation Unit for further investigation.

14 Long Xing 629 crew members arrived with 91 repatriated Indonesian citizens working in South Korea.

Upon arrival at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport arrival terminal, the 14 crew members had to go through the Covid-19 prevention health protocol.

Previously, the Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea, Umar Hadi, said that the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul had accompanied the return of 14 ship crew members to their homeland.

14 crew members from Indonesia also underwent mandatory quarantine, in Busan, in accordance with South Korean health regulations.

They departed using the Garuda Indonesia airline, from Inchon Airport, to Soekarno-Hatta.

In Jakarta, Komnas HAM urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian representatives in South Korea and Beijing to investigate the exact cause of the incident where the bodies of three Indonesian crew members were stolen by the Chinese crew.

Komnas HAM also suspects human trafficking in this incident.

Komnas HAM asked the government to improve the recruitment and supervision system for Indonesian workers who work as international crew members.
