In Efforts to Prevent Corona, Bio Farma No Longer Needs to Import PCR Production

KOMPAS.TV - In the midst of the increasing number of positive corona patients, information has emerged that PT Bio Farma has been able to produce Polymerase Chain Reaction or PCR reagent test kits, the result of the development of the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT).

Bio Farma's mass production of PCR test kits is an effort to fulfill Covid-19 tests for 2 million Indonesians in a short time to get a ratio of 0.6 percent of the Indonesian population tested.

So far, Indonesia has had to rely on imported PCR in an effort to speed up corona detection.

However, until now there are still raw materials that have to be imported from outside.

"I think if the technology is ready, maybe there will be a little problem with raw materials that haven't arrived yet," said BPPT Deputy Soni Solistia Wirawan.

"We still have to buy it from outside, so we are still waiting for the raw materials. When the raw materials arrive, we will prepare a prototype," he continued.

Meanwhile, Bio Farma, which has an installed production capacity of 15,000 tests per day, will first produce 50 thousand tests or the equivalent of 2,000 kits in May 2020, and not long after, it will fulfill its production capacity of 4,000 kits or the equivalent. with 100 thousand tests.

At the same time, the West Java Provincial Government is planning a mass PCR test, following the example of South Korea, which WHO considers the best country for carrying out PCR tests with a population of around 52 million.

"Incidentally, the population of West Java is around 50 million, so our target to find a map of the spread of Covid-19 is to test 300,000 people who are wary and suspected,"

How reliable is the PCR reagent kit test made by this country's children?
