TNI Deploys 600 Personnel to Guard the Natuna Seas

This is the TNI's routine operational intensity troops in securing the Natuna sea in Paslabuh, Lampa Strait, Ranai, Natuna, Friday (3/1/2020). The rally was led by the Commander of Joint Defense Area Command I (Pangkogabwilhan) I, Vice Admiral (Laksdya) TNI Yudo Margono.

The 600 troop personnel consist of 1 Indonesian Army Company Composite Battalion 1 Gardapati, 1 Indonesian Navy Joint Company consisting of Lanal Ranai personnel, elements of KRI Teuku Umar 385 and KRI Tjiptadi 381, Setengar Marine Composite Task Force, and 1 Indonesian Air Force Company.

In his briefing, Yudo conveyed to the soldiers, Pangkogabwilhan I emphasized that territorial violations carried out by foreign government vessels in Indonesia's exclusive economic zone, in the form of illegal fishing escorted by foreign Coast Guard vessels, constituted a threat of violating the Indonesian government's territory.

The press release further stated that the TNI is obliged to take legal action against foreign violators who have entered the territory and illegal activities in the form of fishing without permission from the Indonesian government.

KRI and aircraft crews are asked to understand the applicable rules, both international maritime law and national law in Indonesian maritime areas. Likewise, action should be taken in a measured and professional manner, so that it does not disrupt the already well-established relations between neighboring countries. Then, thirdly, they were asked to use the Role of Engagement which is already used in daily operations.
