Muhammadiyah's Response to the Use of Dinars and Dirhams in Depok

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Chairman of PP Muhammadiyah Anwar Abbas invites all parties to be wise in responding to the case of the Muamalah market in Depok, West Java, which uses dinar and dirham coins in transactions.

Dinars and dirhams are not Indonesian currency. In fact, not a single country uses dinars," said Anwar in a video received by the Kompas TV team, Saturday (6/3)

However, Anwar revealed that the use of dinars and dirhams in the muamalah market is the same as barter transactions or exchange between commodities.

This transaction is also similar to the use of vouchers and coins which is common in Indonesia where interested parties buy or exchange their rupiah first before making a transaction.

Regarding the examination of the founder of Muamalah market, Zaim Saidi. Anwar suggested that the police prioritize a persuasive approach as an effort to gain understanding of the sharia economic concept they adhere to.

"The police must use a persuasive approach to find out the understanding of sharia economics that they adhere to. Moreover, Indonesia is just starting that stage," said Anwar Abbas.
