Researchers and Lung Doctors spoke up about polemic ivermectin as a remedy for the therapy of Covid-19

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV-In the midst of efforts to boost the healing level of Covid-19 patients, the Ministry of SOEs stated, had produced Ivermectin, as a Covid-19 therapy drug.

The Minister of BUMN, Erick Thohir said, Ivermectin was produced by PT Indofarma and had obtained a distribution permit, from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency.

But in its written release, BPOM asserted, Ivermectin Kaplet 12 milligrams, registered in Indonesia as a worm medicine.

In addition, sufficient clinical test data to prove the efficacy of Ivermectin, in preventing and treating COVID-19, until now is not yet available.

Previously, a spokesman for the Covid-19 handling task force, Wiku Adisasmito said, the Ministry of Health Balitbang will conduct further studies related to the use of ivermectin for Covid-19 patients.

Wiku Adisasmito asserted, it is necessary to be careful in the use of this drug and must be on the doctor's recommendation.

Meanwhile, quoted from the official website, WHO stated, Ivermectin is one of the recommended drugs but is only used to treat Covid-19 in clinical trials.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Lung Doctor Association, Dr. Agus Dwi Susanto said that until now there is still no medicine that can cure Covid-19.

BPOM has also given a warning to use Ivermectin for Covid-19 therapy drugs still must be based on a doctor's prescription and be supervised. Without a doctor's prescription, this ivermectin will cause nausea, itching to neurological symptoms such as convulsions and can cause death.
