Woman Arrested Suspected of Spreading Hoax About Job Creation Law

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV A woman with the initials VE (36) was arrested in Makassar, South Sulawesi. He is a suspect in connection with the spread of fake news or hoaxes regarding the omnibus law of the Job Creation Law.

Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Inspector General Argo Tuwono, said that the spread of the hoax was via VE's Twitter account.

"This woman with the initials VE, is 36 years old, a resident of Makassar City, so after we arrested her there we took her to Jakarta, then we carried out an examination. So from the results of the examination, it is true that the person concerned posted, broadcasted fake news on her account "It was his Twitter that caused the chaos there," said Argo.

VE was successfully arrested on October 8 in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

The hoaxes spread by VE are 12 articles in the Omnibus law of the Job Creation Law.

"These are the 12 articles that have been distributed, for example, severance pay has been eliminated, then UMP-UMK has been abolished, then all leave has no compensation and so on. These have been circulated so that the public has been provoked," said Argo .

Argo explained that VE carried out his actions because he was not working and was disappointed with the regulations, thereby spreading misinformation via social media.

VE will be charged under Article 14 paragraphs 1 and 2 or Article 15 of Law No. 1 of 1946 concerning criminal law regulations with the threat of a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.
