Why Are Malls Open While Mosques Are Closed? This is Mahfud Md's answer

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Questions and criticism emerged amidst the implementation of the PSBB. The criticism is why malls remain open while mosques are closed for congregational prayers?

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD also explained that the decision referred to the fatwa of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) regarding restrictions on the implementation of congregational prayers in mosques.

"But what's the difference? If the ulama assembly is in the nature of a fatwa, if we emphasize that according to the law and the Minister of Health Regulation which currently applies, group worship in large congregations is prohibited in order to maintain safety from the transmission of Covid-19," said Mahfud , Tuesday, (19/5/2020).

Meanwhile, Mahfud said that the malls that are allowed to open are those that are included in the 11 sectors that are allowed to operate.

\"For example, why are mosques closed, why are malls opened? I don't think what was opened is a violation of the law, also because there are certain sectors or 11 sectors which by law can be opened with protocols but those which violate it, such as IKEA, are also closed "In the end, it was the violation," he said.

Meanwhile, according to Mahfud, the operation of the airport is to transport people for duties and work related to handling the spread of Covid-19.

"Those who violate these provisions will also be prosecuted for those who do not comply with these regulations," he said.
