Lukman Niode, Legendary Indonesian Swimmer Dies

Legendary Indonesian swimmer, Lukman Niode, died Friday (17/4/2020) afternoon in Jakarta.

The man who is familiarly called Luki died at around one in the afternoon at Pelni Hospital, Jakarta.

The news of Lukman Niode's death was confirmed directly by his older brother, Idrus Niode, who is also a former national swimmer.

During his career as a swimming athlete, Lukman Niode succeeded in making Indonesia proud on the international stage.

There has been no official statement regarding the cause of death of the athlete who played for Indonesia at the 1984 Olympics.

However, based on data collected by Kompas TV, Luki died with PDP Covid-19 status.

Previously, Luki had been treated at Pelni Hospital since April 12 2020, due to complaints of shortness of breath and dizziness.

Lukie, who died at the age of 47, also served as administrator of KOI, KONI and Satlak Prima.

During his active career as a swimmer, Lukie won gold medals from PON events to the Sea Games in the 1970s to 1980s.
