Jokowi's anger regarding oil and gas imports has led to asking Ahok to resolve it

President Joko Widodo is irritated by the high number of oil and gas imports and admits that he already knows who is behind the high number of oil and gas imports.

President Jokowi, at the opening of the 2020-2024 RPJMN Musrenbangnas at the State Palace, admitted that he had reminded parties who profit from oil and gas imports. According to the President, oil imports of up to 800 thousand barrels per day have caused the problems of the current account deficit and trade balance deficit to never be resolved. As a solution, the President is encouraging increased production of import substitute goods.

Previously, on December 9, President Jokowi summoned the President Commissioner and Managing Director of Pertamina to the Palace, regarding the state budget deficit due to the large number of imports in the oil and gas sector. According to Pertamina President Commissioner Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, imports in the oil and gas and petrochemical sectors are a burden on the current budget balance.

Data from the Central Statistics Agency states that Indonesia's oil and gas imports in tons have reached almost 50 million tons in the last five years. You can see from this graph, in 2017 oil and gas imports from at least ten countries amounted to more than 50 million tonnes, with a value of 24.3 billion US dollars.
