Low Tracking Ability, DKI Health Department Suspects that the Corona Virus B.1.1.7 Has Already Entered Indonesia

The DKI Provincial Government suspects that the B.1.1.7 corona virus has long entered Indonesia. This concern arises due to Indonesia's low ability to track Covid-19 cases. This boils down to the possibility that this variant, which is predicted to be 40-70 percent more contagious, has spread within the country without being detected, including in Jakarta.

"It's possible that B.1.1.7 might have been present before we identified it yesterday," said Head of P2P at the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Dwi Oktavia, Friday (5/3/2021). Concerns also arise because genome sequence examinations cannot be carried out en masse.

Because until now there are only a few central laboratories that can carry out this examination. In line with Dwi Oktavia, a similar statement was made by Australian Griffith University Epidemiologist Dicky Budiman. According to Dicky, the B.1.1.7 corona virus has been spreading in Indonesia since 2020. He admitted that he was not surprised and had predicted it beforehand.
