Expensive Gas Prices, Jokowi: I Want to Speak Harshly, But That's Not So...

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his frustration at the high price of industrial gas. This was conveyed by President Jokowi when chairing a limited meeting regarding gas prices at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday (6/1/2020)/

Jokowi even stated that he wanted to speak harshly because he was annoyed with the high price of gas. Initially, Jokowi explained that the high price of gas was making Indonesian products less competitive than foreign products.

"Gas prices will have a big impact on the competitiveness of our industrial products in the world market. We keep losing our products because of high gas prices," said Jokowi in a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday (6/1/2020 ).

In fact, Jokowi said, there are six industrial sectors that use 80 percent of Indonesia's gas volume. This means that when the portion of gas is very large in the production cost structure, this will affect the selling price of the product.

Jokowi asked his staff to really look into the causes of high gas prices. Jokowi also revealed that he almost said something harsh because of the high gas prices.

"I wanted to say something harsh, but I didn't. I think that's what I can say as an introduction," he said.
