6.6 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Tuban, Felt in Cilacap

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 rocked Tuban Regency, East Java, on Friday (14/4/2023), at around 16.55 WIB. The earthquake vibrations were felt as far away as Cilacap City, Central Java.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded that the earthquake was located at 6.29 South Latitude, 111.92 East Longitude or 68 km northwest of Tuban.

The earthquake did not have the potential for a tsunami. There have been no reports regarding the impact of the earthquake, but the public is asked to remain alert to the potential for aftershocks.
