Earthquake Rocks Several Points in Indonesia, Why Was There No Warning from Bmkg?

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - After experiencing earthquakes at a number of points in Indonesia, various locations were damaged.

This earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 is quite large.

So, why was there no warning from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG)?

In the video above, Friends of Kompas TV can listen to an explanation from BRIN Geotechnology Research Center Researcher, Nuraini Rahma Hanifa, regarding benchmarks for earthquake warnings and analysis of today's disasters.

Meanwhile, BMKG also appealed to the public to always wait for the latest news from the official website bmkg.go.id as a credible source of information on earthquakes, tsunamis and other natural disasters.

The earthquake on Friday (14/1) which occurred just now, at 16.05 WIB, rocked Jakarta and its surroundings.

It is known that this earthquake had a magnitude of 6.6.

Data received by Kompas TV from BMKG, the epicenter of the earthquake was 52 kilometers southwest of Sumur, Banten.

Head of the BNPB Data and Data Center, Abdul Muhari, said that there was panic in the community due to the earthquake.

Not without reason, from public reports, the earthquake was felt for more than 10 seconds.

This 6.6 magnitude earthquake was reported to have a depth of 10 kilometers.

BMKG stated that the earthquake that just occurred did not have the potential for a tsunami.

Therefore, the public is advised to remain calm and continue activities with caution.
