Duh! After 3 Days of Release, Bahar Smith Returns to Prison

KOMPAS.TV - After only 3 days of freedom through the assimilation program, Bahar Bin Smith was thrown into prison again.

For security and order reasons, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights then transferred Bahar Bin Smith to the Batu Penitentiary, Nusakambangan Island, Central Java.

There was an argument with prison security officers and lawyer Bahar Bin Smith in front of the Gunung Sindur prison yard, Bogor, West Java.

Bahar Bin Smith's lawyer, Ichwan Tuankotta, regretted that there had been no communication from the prison regarding his client's arrest.

The lawyer said he was still trying to confirm the reasons for his client's re-arrest.

He suspected that Bahar Bin Smith had violated the Ministry of Law and Human Rights' assimilation agreement and conditions regarding Covid-19.

Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Liberti Sitinjak, said that Bahar was deemed to have violated the provisions in carrying out the assimilation program so that the Ministry of Law and Human Rights revoked Bahar's release and assimilation.

On Tuesday evening (19/5/2020) Bahar was transferred from Gunung Sindur Prison to Batu Class I Prison, Nusakambangan under police and correctional services.

In July 2019, Bahar Bin Smith was sentenced to 3 years in prison by a panel of judges at the Bandung District Court for a case of abuse. When he received release through the assimilation program, Bahar had already served half the prison term decided by the judge.
