Chinese Ambassador: Natuna Conflict does not affect investment in Indonesia

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV - Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xiao Qian ensures that problems in Natuna waters do not affect his party's investment in Indonesia. According to Xiao Qian, problems in Natuna waters can be resolved.

"We have a very good relationship in many areas, but good friends sometimes have a different perspective. We can solve this problem. We have good communication and I think our problem will be resolved well," he said when met at the Indonesia Stock Exchange, Jakarta Wednesday (1/8/2020).

Reporting from Kompas.com, Xiao Qian also said that the dispute about Natuna would not affect the economic relations of the two countries including China's investment in Indonesia.

The statement made by Xiao Qian was in line with what was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. Luhut actually stressed that the dispute that occurred in Natuna also did not influence the Indonesian economy.

Previously, Luhut even asked for tension with China because the Natuna sea problem did not need to be exaggerated.

"Actually, there is no need to be enlarged. When it comes to the presence of the ship, actually we also lack the ability of the ship to patrol our ZEE (Exclusive Economic Zone)," Luhut said in his office on Friday (1/3/2020).
