Covid-19: Delta Variant Continues to Attack, Countries in Southeast Asia Overwhelmed - Bbc News Indonesia

The delta variant of Covid-19 caused a spike in cases in Southeast Asia.

In Indonesia, cases are increasing rapidly which has resulted in an increase in the death rate. Data from Thursday (08/07), Indonesia recorded more than 500 deaths per day.

On the other hand, oxygen supplies continue to run low and residents have to independently search for oxygen for their families who are receiving treatment.

Thailand, which previously successfully overcame the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, is now overwhelmed.

Hospitals are filled with patients and positive cases are increasing much faster than the number of residents who are fully vaccinated.

Public anger also increased because the government was deemed to have failed to stem the spread of the new variant.

Meanwhile, Malaysia, one of the countries in Southeast Asia with the highest vaccination rate, also cannot afford continued regional quarantine. Residents began waving white flags, a sign of surrender and asking for help.
