Hiccup? This is the cause and how to overcome it
Hiccups occur when the diaphragm muscle spasms. The diaphragm is a muscle below the chest cavity and separates the heart and lungs from the abdominal organs.
The diaphragm's job is to breathe in and out. When hiccups occur, the diaphragm muscle becomes irritated so that air is sucked into the throat and hits the voice box.
If the voice box is exposed to air, it will automatically close and make a characteristic hiccup sound.
Things that can trigger hiccups are:
Hot drinks Eating too quickly Flatulence Drinking soda Hot food Being too scared or excited Hiccups usually subside quickly. If hiccups occur for a long period of time or even days, it usually means there are health problems such as stomach acid, nerve problems, respiratory problems, and blood sugar disorders.
To overcome hiccups, you can do this in several ways. First, you can hold your breath for a short time or cover your ears briefly and repeat several times.
Apart from that, massaging the area around the solar plexus, pulling on the tongue to stimulate the muscles in the throat, and sitting with your knees hugged can also relieve hiccups.
