Very small in size, this is the original form of the Sars-cov-2 corona virus that covers human lung cells

TRIBUN-VIDEO.COM - An assistant professor at the Marsico Lung Institute, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Camille Ehra succeeded in capturing images from an electron scanning microscope to see the Corona virus infecting bronchial cells.

Bronchial cells are usually found in the main tube leading to the lungs, but this time experts monitored bronchial cells infected with the new coronavirus in a petri dish.

In the released image, the coronavirus is shown with hundreds of small red dots covering turquoise ciliated cells.

SARS-CoV-2 is very small, namely 50 to 200 nanometers in diameter.

For comparison, human blood cells are about 7,000 nanometers in size.

This means that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is too small to be seen using a light microscope.

This virus can only be observed with an electron microscope.

The researchers also had to infect a sample of human respiratory tract cells with SARS-CoV-2 first in a laboratory dish.

The virus is left for four days for the spread process, then the cells are examined and analyzed.

Quoted from IFL Science, via Kompas.com, the images obtained can give some idea of the number of virus particles produced during the infection.

The virus uses host cells to produce copies that then spread to other cells.

Cells in the infected respiratory tract can produce up to thousands of Corona virus particles.

These particles infect the lungs and can also come out of the nose to infect other people.

This is what makes wearing a mask so important to prevent the spread of the Corona Virus.

"Using masks on infected and uninfected individuals can limit the transmission of SARS-CoV-2," he added, as reported by IFL Science, Friday (4/9/2020). (Tribun-Video/Kompas)
