Tornado at Wonogiri Reservoir Triggers Residents' Panic!
"The tornado was seen appearing above WGM Wonogiri. It was quite large and rotated for about 10-15 minutes," said BPBD Wonogiri Chief Executive Bambang Haryanto to detikcom by telephone, Wednesday (20/1/2021).
Bambang said the tornado was seen at around 16.00 WIB. The first time the wind was seen over the waters around Sendang Village, Wonogiri District. Then move west and then south.
"It first appeared around Sendang Village," he explained.
After moving south, the wind then disappeared. The tornado only appeared above the waters and did not reach land, let alone residential areas.
"We emphasize that it appears above the waters, does not reach land," he said.
According to him, there were no reports of any damage due to the tornado. Considering that it occurred above the reservoir waters. It just made local residents and fishermen worried.
"Current conditions in the reservoir area are heavy rain. The tornado phenomenon often appears every year, above the reservoir," added Bambang.
Separately, the Head of Sendang Village (Kades), Sukamto, said the tornado appeared at around 16.00 WIB. The wind was observed to be strong and quite long.
"The size of the wind was quite large and its duration was quite long, yes, tens of minutes. Thank God, then it rained and then the wind disappeared, so it didn't reach the settlements, only on the water," said Sukamto when contacted by journalists by telephone.
Meanwhile, one of the residents of Sendang Village, Erni, admitted that he was worried if the tornado approached the settlement. Moreover, currently disasters often occur in a number of other areas.
"Luckily the wind passed quickly," said Erni.
