Color Documentary of the Dutch East Indies in 1931

An episode of "FitzPatrick Travel-Talks", following a ship on its way to Java. This documentary shows views of the seaport of Batavia (now Jakarta, Indonesia); details the atmosphere of Dutch canals which were originally built for transportation, then used by some people as a place to wash clothes. This film also shows a fishing village in the old city of Batavia, the botanical gardens in Buitenzorg (now Bogor, Indonesia), Borobudur Temple, Kamojang Crater, Mount Papandayan, forests, rice fields and markets.

James Anthony FitzPatrick (1894–1980) was an American producer, director, writer, and narrator. In 1930 he began making travel documentaries, known as "The Voice of the Globe". Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) distributed a series entitled "FitzPatrick Travel-Talks". These programs are famous for preserving documentation of the appearance and views of various cities before the rise of skyscrapers and recording how people lived at that time.
